jackals

in the darkness bane I am insolent
cavorting on the periphery of jackals
carnivores of greed they feed from my want

insidious nature draws me closer
inside the kingdom of the dead there is no king
just the cloying stink of fear
vanquishing the fear I shudder
one with the pit I cringe

my soul seeks knowledge in all things
seeking to touch what should not be bothered
a pyre of bones reeks to the high heavens
scattered remains of the freshly picked over

pus writhes to life and a being forms
he bellows sulfur a lie curling from his lips
I am curious about its nature that such a being exists

the monster eyes me and growls...
don't seek to understand--
what your mortal mind can't fathom

just recognize there is power
one to lift high and one to devour
