Image for the poem hiccup

hiccup

god I burn inside the pain
I loved your soul then we fell away
torn asunder I cry your name
between every breath
jilted feelings lie to me

I pull myself from the dark
your face haunts my sleep
I seek you out, twist then turn
awake and you're missing

pangs of regret pulse through me
I hold onto the truth of the feeling
I grip my sides and weep

a loss of understanding
you fade into the black when I looked away
I missed the signs now you're gone

I die little deaths of denial
hopes you'll return fade every day passing
I'll be fine tumbles from my lips

no ones listening to the broken girl
with the plastic smile no ones buying
