RETHINKING SUCCESS
SURPRISE
I climbed the highest
mountain and found
a dead volcano's mouth.
I traveled down the
road I had made
and found a dead-end.
I reached the goal and
discovered it was what
someone else had set for me.
I burned the midnight oil
and discovered it had
consumed my health
and destroyed relationships.
My name looked great
on the wall but my blind
ego said the letters needed
to be bigger.
THOUGHT!
Sometimes it may be wise
to measure successes in life
not by the material goals
we have reached or desire
to reach but by the joys
we have experienced in
the daily routines and
small pleasures we have
gained from a sunset, a flower,
rain, a walk, a meal with
a friend, a beautiful memory.
MAYBE
we need to rethink success
and set inner happiness
goals that don't depend
on stuff out there.
