How will you know
that I am yours?
The proof will be
the widening glow that rises in my eyes,
the tremble in my voice
when you are near to me,
the way my body
arches up into your touch
and how my tongue
begins to lash dark dreams
upon your skin.

Can we say, "...when you are near to me," or when you are near me? We can say,"nearer to OR nearest to, but not near to.
Can we say, "...when you are near to me," or when you are near me? We can say,"nearer to OR nearest to, but not near to.
Of course we can say "near to me"

And then there's precedent from a writer from the time of your golden age poets:
"I could understand what was said when the speaker stood near to me; but I could not answer; to open my lips or move my limbs was equally impossible."
“Are you anything akin to me, do you think, Jane?"
I could risk no sort of answer by this time; my heart was full.
"Because," he said, "I sometimes have a queer feeling with regard to you — especially when you are near to me, as now: it is as if I had a string somewhere under my left ribs, tightly and inextricably knotted to a similar string situated in the corresponding quarter of your little frame"

Besides that, if I hadn't used "to", the rhythm of the line would have been thrown off. And as we all know, one of your guiding maxims is that it is perfectly acceptable to be ungrammatical so long as the rhythm one intends to use is maintained. So you are being hypocritical in your attempt to show you are the king of English grammar and to score points against me with this niggle.
But would you think I was engaged in a solecism if I had written "next to me"?

First, l didn't say grammar mistakes are allowed to save your faltering rhythm. Second, according to LONGMAN DICTIONARY OF CONTEMPORARY ENGLISH, the word TO may be used with nearer and nearest, but not usually with Near. You may use CLOSE TO.
Leaving aside the fact that you haven't shown (no doubt because you can't) that my rhythm in this piece IS faulty), you've frequently claimed that grammar mistakes and solecisms are allowed to save the rhythm of your lines.
And as you note, Longmans does NOT say that "to" is NEVER to be used with near.
