Kintsugi

I’d become quite the expert
at lining up my jagged seams,
gluing them all down from inside,
piecing myself together for you,
pretending to be whole

nothing is beyond repair
once you stop trying to
hide that it was ever broken,
believing no one will notice

my contents under pressure
boiled from concealed cracks
whenever I finally felt full,
burning the hands that tried
to hold me from the outside

nothing is beyond remedy
once you stop trying to
equate progress with perfection,
believing it beyond your reach

I stopped trying to fix myself
with all the wrong materials;
validation, affection, conditional love
make for insecure patches,
dissolving instantly in hot water

nothing is beyond reconciliation
once you stop trying to
hold yourself above reproach,
believing your flaws insignificant
to your own misery

a precious balm of wisdom gained
is now applied carefully to fill
the void left by my love abandoned,
my sharp edges sanded smooth
by the honest truth of its departure

nothing is beyond redemption
once you stop trying to be
what you are not and accept that
broken repaired properly is beautiful,
knowing you are finally whole
