Life's Beautiful Verse
The play called life goes on
And you are its beautiful verse
The sea breeze that touches the soul
Long before sea is seen
Vast beyond all distance
Save the deeper abyss of the heavens
And there is a sea of longing that stirs me
As if the thought you
Calling me
The roll and wash of waves
Fades to silence along the strand
Alone
For I would taste the salt of your tears
And the glad life giving of your kisses
Sailing now as a lone white gull
Distant
Against the blue on blue
Hoping one day to find
Your footprints in the sand
and dance carefree amid the surf and laughter
Of that sun kissed day
With you
The play called life goes on
And you are its beautiful verse
Sing gladly in your going
For fair breeze proceeds the wind
And you're smiling
Running into my arms
All that I need to breath
Fields of flowers rippling
Forests swaying
Sighing
Deep shadowing streams
And hidden glades of sunlight
That glow
The soft mystery of your eyes
And in your arms have I not lived
Though the world ends
The play called life goes on
And you are its beautiful verse
When the last person you know says your name
Let it be me
You have been the collateral beauty of my days
The touches of your grace
Like leaves falling
One by one in my passing
Gifting your love free shared with me
To the unknowing
But in the giving
They know that I have been touched by love
What are tears
What is distance
Remembrance and memory but holding your echoes
Whispering
Let's go home
And never has a hand fit so gladly into mine
With you I have lived
And I am home
Whether here or beyond the farthest star
Else
What is love
The play called life goes on
And you are its beautiful verse
And you are its beautiful verse
