STANDING ON MY HEAD WHILE THE WORLD GOES BY
a presidential
election
a new pandemic
a different face
working behind
the counter at
my favorite coffee
shop
it must be the end
of the world
snake in the
grass
rolling snake
eyes
snake charmer
calls the tune
feels like snakes
under my skin,
but I haven't done
drugs in decades
forgetting the lessons
of the past,
you're either for us or
against us
the middle ground
is a sink
hole
the world ends with
an unasked
question
not because the
question was
unimportant
but because God
knew we were
deaf
fate is a comely
woman dressed
in a red leather
teddy with a whip
in her hand
and I witness it
all--
standing on my
head while the
world goes by
