THREE SHIFTS IN

three shifts in
and my heart is a sparrow
beating wing against bone
and the brain almost full on
reptilian
and i swear i could crawl
up this wall
and burrow out
through the ceiling
(the floor being concrete
but, hell, I could claw
through wood and shingle)
but i'm too tired anyway
and so i'm just here

doing my bit
another two, maybe three hours

then the drive home
and, finally,

sleep

Author's Note
Sleep is a sanctuary.
Honestly, it's only three eight hour shifts with a little overtime but, I swear, it wears me out.
