Queens Don’t Swing
Gotta say, it saddens me,
How we walk by one another,
But won’t speak,
Will give a body scan though,
Pause & look each other from head to toe,
Assuming the position of some kind of enemy,
Treating each other like a foe.
All of that, I try not to feed,
Because honestly, there’s really no need,
I’m never here to compete...
That’s not possible because we’re all unique:
Ain’t no one like you...
& ain’t no one like me.
Like Ms. Scott tried to tell us,
Queens Don’t Swing,
So you can fix your face,
Ain’t no need to frown at me.
Ain’t no need to try and be big,
Knowing damn well we all going through our own shit...
Knowing how hard it already is?
And we’re giving each other our asses to kiss.
Why don’t we share this energy with these men?
Why they always get a pass?
Why we always so quick to dismiss each other?
But will fight for a toxic relationship to last?
Why can’t we give each other a compliment?
Be sincere ...
Really mean it
Tell me,
Why does there always have to be shade hiding somewhere underneath it?
Knowing all the shit we face,
Honestly,
I’d rather not make everything a race,
I’d rather be at my own steady pace,
And watch you make it too, at the very end of the day.
Queens Don’t Swing...
We need to shelve all the hostility,
All the jealously...
None of us really need.
Ain’t it just tiring?
Ain’t it easier to do your own thing?
Rather than watching another woman,
With a heart full of hate?
Rather than step on each other’s toes,
And fuck each other over,
Rather than pass by one another,
Giving off the cold shoulder.
I’m here to say... I wanna see you win,
Not here to shit in your parade,
Woman to woman,
I’m rooting for you & pray you keep finding your way.
How we walk by one another,
But won’t speak,
Will give a body scan though,
Pause & look each other from head to toe,
Assuming the position of some kind of enemy,
