As stone, shifting and settling.
Inner earth, breaching its soft skin.
Climbing great heights to surrender to the stars.
Sinking deep, to sleep upon the ocean floor
Bleached by the sun                   and time.
Weathered, struck, cracked.
Whittled down from mountain top-
To ridge, to rock and sand.
Yet even something small can change.

Eroded stone becomes the coast
Who tides caress.
Brittle titans which tower over the horizon
Crumble into great migrations of force
From peak to surface.

By manipulation of the pick
Ascend to gods, mortals, and the animal forms
To build, to slay.
Walls; to define, protect or imprison

Then, from core to sky
Pressurized liquid forms- erupt
Empowered by heat and energy.
Burning away life and function.
Infinitely small and numerous specs
To blacken the sky and enrich soil.

As stone- the fleeting envy.
