my flannel
the worn flannel that hangs from my shoulders
comfort fire desire liar
i bought it at my local thrift store
and someone had bought it before me
and decided to wear it, just as i do
my flannel has had a whole other life
past present future
oh my beautiful and nurturing flannel
you feel like a hug on a cold winter's night
you provide me sanctuary
from the anxiety that inflames me
thank you, my flannel
i hope one day, when i donate you
someone finds you
and receives the same comfort i did
in the future of course
because I cannot let you go yet
my worn and lovely flannel
