Slay the Demons

 
I’ve fallen into that lake of darkness
     a couple of times in my life
      and somehow made it to the other side
So if I see you fall in there
     I’ll dive right in without any hesitation
And go after you

You may be almost six feet tall
But you’re still that little boy
     I used to carry in my arms
That tiny baby
     cooing at me at three in the morning
That small hand reaching out to me

I’ll dive in after you

We’ll slay the demons together
In my day I had some of them motherfuckers myself
      I can show you the scars
      I can show you the verses
      the wars I fought within
But I won’t let you go through the night by yourself
I got your six

Your pen is sharp as a sword
      and quick as your wit which you can spit to whip these monsters
I give you my word
     I will never let go
I will fight for you until my last breath
I’ll be right there with you

It won’t matter how many devils may come your way
     you have the strength of ancient warriors in your blood
     you have the spirit of ancestors running in your veins
     ink to spill for years and decades to come
The shadows will not decide your fate
     Because I will fight by your side

I can never fathom what life would be without you
     you mean too much to me
You are the outcome of two people in love
     you are the best parts of your mother
     of me
