Synesthetica, Part I (Aspectu)

i.  aspectu
(sight)

old world
apothecarium
tucked into
crumbling
architecture
on an otherwise
nondescript
Main Street,
digested
treasures
in bulbous glass
bellies;
walls of books
keeping
ancient secrets;
totems
and trinkets
line shelves
of stained
wood,
oversaturated
with
nostalgia

antique
street lamps
lending
softness
to earthy
cobblestone
beneath
my feet;
tree canopies
reaching across
narrow streets,
insulating
my vision

late afternoon rain
ink blots
riding rain drops
down
foggy
windows,
making mirrors
of muted shades
reflecting shimmers
from above,
hiding shapes
in the
shadows
of forgotten
corners
