There Is A Hunger In My skin

there is a hunger in my skin
it goes away but comes again
this hunger was there from long ago
it  gave my life a rocky start
regardless of this I would be remiss
if I didn't say I loved you in spite of this
I know the hunger stemmed in part
from all the pain inside  your heart
I'm sure you loved me the best you could
in just the way a mother should

Author's Note
My mother was on the verge of having a nervous breakdown when I was born. My father was overseas fighting in the Korean War. My parents already had a one year old and a two year old child. There was no way she could have given me the care I needed. On the brighter side, I did receive enough love and attention to survive.
