The Magi
( After William Butler Yeats )
Traversing the sky's open arms
Seekers arrive from afar—
Lugging coffers of golden charms
Toward that yonder star
Wealthy cities hold no allure
For those with vacant hearts—
Nor treasury's worth reassure
Happiness shan't depart
Yet for promised kingdom yon
They'll don their thorny crowns—
Exchange all wealth for answers sought
On Golgotha's bloody mound
~

"They'll don their thorny crowns—
Exchange all wealth for answers sought"
Voluntarily is the key inference here, as it can be necessary to undergo personal tribulation in the rejection of flawed reasoning. Thus a crown of thorns is a perfect symbol of pain and suffering in relationship to the head / mind portion of the body.
This is excellent use of Yeat's source poem of the same name, where you contrast his portrayal of disatisfaction from following the rigid edicts of the Ego with personal growth through inner battles and becoming a disciplined master of your own spiritual domain.
Bravo!

Thank you. I read some of his rhyming pieces and noted how seemingly unforced they were. I thought I would combine the essence of Magi with the rhyming of others to see what I could come up with. 'Stepping out of the box' per se!

As is yours; very fluid, and with internal rhyming to boot. Other than Seuss, I don't recall reading many if any rhymers by you.
Once completely out of the box, you never entirely go back in. [nonsense]

I think Mr Yeats would be more than pleased with this excellent poem, A...we will suffer anything as long as we can find some meaning.

This is wonderfully penned... Love how this poem flows with a beautiful cadence...
There are some great people who are not distracted by the treasures n pleasures of this world...No earthy charm can mislead them or leave them astray... They are the seekers... Seekers of truth

Ah that's good to know! It's one of Yeats' most famous poems. Glad to know I hit the nail on the head with it.
