Direct and to the Point
Some people tell me I’m too direct
I should use more diplomacy
I tell them I’m from New York
Go fuck yourself
Diplomacy is nice for some
For the rest of us it gets in our way
You’ll always know what I’m thinking
When I think it I say it
To the guy on the scooter on the sidewalk
I say
Street asshole
If he doesn’t try to run me down
He does what I say
It ain’t easy here
Everyone is an asshole
Including me
I should use more diplomacy
I tell them I’m from New York
Go fuck yourself
Diplomacy is nice for some
For the rest of us it gets in our way
You’ll always know what I’m thinking
When I think it I say it
To the guy on the scooter on the sidewalk

Street asshole
If he doesn’t try to run me down
He does what I say
It ain’t easy here
Everyone is an asshole
Including me

Just be yourself, Poet. Those who hang around are those who accept you for yourself. That's the true litmus test.

Maybe you need lessons from a Canadian. Apparently we're nice even when we're actually telling you to fuck off.

LOL at broken. Sorry, didn't mean to laugh so hard.
I think the times I've spoken up because I didn't like something I was called an asshole (when I'm usually quiet and pleasant). But I like to maintain respect. Respectful asshole? It all depends on personality. "That asshole has quite the personality".

The funny part is this is no exaggeration.
It’s like that here. You have to be careful though because depending on who you call an asshole could get you shot. Sooooo I pick my spots to be rude. Scooters and bikes on the sidewalk drives pedestrians crazy. We have no rights anymore !!

I think in part some people don't have manners. I was brought up to always say please and thank you.
Same with sharing the road, watching out for other folks simply because there some who are too into themselves to be aware of others. If I'm jogging on the street, I wave hello or peace sign to a fellow jogger, or lately keep distance with a friendly wave. In fact I see more older folks on their early morning walks so I'll give myself even more space when I come up behind them so as to not startle them, then again it's just me. The streets are empty where I live but a place like NYC, with everyone shoulder to shoulder, you gotta be tough.

You have to speak up sometimes because people only think of themselves especially the younger ones. It's a double edged sword but one thing is for sure, you need manners and you also gotta know when to defend ....
