Hunting Unicorns

so much pain
running like mice
scrabbling around
hurting the brain

mutterings, you know
with wiggling tails
rubbing other thoughts
akin to lighted flue

velvet can be painful
nightmares wide awake
new days bright agony
each steps on razor blade

sun shines in
sometimes
cleaning the cobwebs
planting smiles in her eyes.

Is it dementia...a friend asked. I didn't know. She's young yet. She looked away, clutching her photo album.
