Summer Rain

Somber pains hide carefully,
Behind a stoic mountain face—
With a crooked smile that always seems
Just a little out of place.

Summer rain, scratch the surface,
Sink beneath my aching skin;
Soothing cracks and pains
that wrack my brain.
Moving mountains deep within.

I lift my arms and let it drip,
Let the waters wash away the pain.
Let the gentle rain upon my lips
Eclipse the winter’s icy bane.

Stripped of all my sorrow,
Redemption seeps into my marrow;
Singing songs of a new tomorrow,
Chirping like a chipping sparrow!
