Corona Blues - NYC Love Story

My wife quarantined for 33 days
The first week was bad
Then she got slowly better
Enough so that we would take walks
Mask and gloves on
The whole time she was sick we were vigilant
Never letting up on hygiene and sanitizing
My black shoes have bleached souls
We are super careful
She still got sick

6 days out of quarantine and she’s had a relapse
I’m cooking again if you can call it that
My wife is a super caregiver
She takes care of cooking and cleaning and works part time
Walks dogs too
I work a stressful sales job
Now we are both home
She’s sick again
I’ll nurse her back
Soft boiled eggs and tea
Rice and beans
Reading and exchanging information

We live in a decent sized one bedroom apartment
She stays in the bedroom mostly
I live in the living room
It’s doable
When she started to feel good again
She was taking ballet classes on Zoom from the bedroom
I sit and read and do occasional sales work
The road job had gotten old
I miss it though
The freedom to ride the subway
Shaking hands
Making a living

She thanks me for making her food
She makes me food all the time
We’ve been married 30 years
Feels like yesterday we were taking our vows
We hardly ever argue
I make funny faces to make her laugh
Everyone said I was too wild it would never last
They didn’t know the real me
They didn’t know the real her
There’s tons of love
Even more respect

I gotta go boil the water
Earl Grey tea when she’s sick
Coffee when better
She makes great coffee
I do the basics
She never complains
Sometimes asks for more half and half
