my admiration is a secret
whispered only
to the page
a quiet infatuation
designed by the gods
as unrequited
and either a joke or offensive
and so unspoken
except in this old man's mind
but then an old man is just a young man
tempered and chastened by circumstance
and his eye is only a little cloudy

I like this poem a lot because of its subtle, alternative message : there is more than meets the eye.
And because of that, the poem becomes a doorway into a deeper examination of the non-physical soul or mind in tandem with a physical representation.

I don't expect a lot from the judging, but it was inspired by Duffy's great poetry. I wrote it a couple weeks ago but was hesitant to post it, then the more I worked on it the more I was inclined to share.
There is always more than meets the eye.

Dear J,
This piece made my heart skip a beat. It is so thoughtful and reflective to me as a remembrance that we are all young in mind and soul and feelings and attractions don’t always match a chronological number. The heart loves what the heart loves. It’s a wonderful poem. H🌷
