FIND A PENNY (DON'T) PICK  IT UP

that penny bears a wicked curse
a heavy debt
an empty purse
a broken heart
a heavy load
warts and cankers
cancerous nodes
karmic tangles
guilty woes
fungus, fever
bleakest lows
tremors, tics
or balding pate
unemployment
empty plates
if you find it
let it lay
better luck
will come your way

Author's Note
This is for the Superstitions comp.
I had a cluster of warts on my knee when I was a kid, and when Santa asked me what I wanted, I told him I wanted those warts gone. He took a penny, touched each wart with it, and told me to toss it in the parking lot. Even then I realized someone was going to pick that penny up and get my warts but...I did it anyway. So...to this day I will not pick up a coin I find, even though the warts had to be surgically removed.
