Love in the Time of Corona
doesn't always make sense
despite random acts of kindness
dispelling the loneliness
of an isolated existence—
or social distancing
maintaining a lifeline
of virtual connection—
it's War of the Worlds—
when a global community
actually stands together
against a predator
who knows no race nor color—
only vulnerability and age
They say the Universe
works in mysterious ways—
hopefully humankind won't forget
this united camaraderie
and, perhaps, just maybe. . .
that is its purpose to begin with—
or so I choose to believe

The title caught my attention right away. I just bough my grandmother Love in the Time of Cholera for her birthday. I think this pandemic will either bring out the best or worst in people, but it's a time when we need to show love for others. Everything does have a purpose, and that's what I choose to believe.
Great piece Ahavati.
Stay safe and healthy out there.

Thanks, Wally! Gabriel García Márquez is one of my absolute favorite authors, and this title is based on that very book ( one of my favorites to which I have a poem entitled after )! One Hundred Years of Solitude was chilling as well!
Take care and be safely healthy out there! We're all in this together. xo

I've read One Hundred Years three times and I've been meaning to read it in Spanish. I love Gabriel's magic surrealism.
Now that most of us our home, I'll make sure to catch up on some reading myself.

Another author you would probably enjoy is José Saramago, particularly "All The Names"—his vocabulary is meticulous, and style is so inspiring.

Great Piece.
Thank You.
In this time i have seen more collective kindness i have ever seen before. Better days are ahead of us. I hope we can remember this life lesson: stand together no matter the differences and take care for yourself and others. An act of Love.
❤️ 2 all.

Thank you, Island Breeze! I have too. Those reaching out and willing to help are so inspirational at this time in our history. Particularly the large corporations forgoing disconnects and offering free services. This is when humanity shines. ❤️

Thank you, Jess. It's a shame it takes something such as this; but, whatever it takes, it takes. ❤️

I absolutely agree with the final stanza.
On the surface, everything appears to be a case of being at the wrong place at the right time, especially for those who already suffer from underlying conditions and thus are statistically more likely to expire.
Life is just not this fickle; there is more than meets the eye, and this is definitely many a teachable moment on a global scale.

Exactly! Despite the heartache and suffering, the doubt and uncertainty, there is this spark of hope within me that no death will be senselessly, in that it didn't accomplish Love in the process.
Thank you.

Clever title A...sometimes through the greatest tragedies great things break through...my son is a molecular biologist...virus' are his thing, he says that this little critter is a beautiful thing indeed...of course, he doesn't want to get it, or his ageing daddy lol. A beautiful poem my friend.

Oh wow! You must be really proud of him! You know, to scientists and biologists, these things are beautiful compositions in and of themselves—as long as they practice social distancing!
Thank you, my friend. So happy you're positive energy is back too!

Yes, I look at everything thru these Philosopher eyes A...everything keeps getting recycled lol. Perhaps out of all this we will heed the great Roman Stoic, Seneca..."The greatest obstacle to living is expectancy, which hangs upon tomorrow and loses today. You are arranging what lies in Fortune's control, and abandoning what lies in yours. What are you looking at? To what goal are you straining? The whole future lies in uncertainty: live immediately."
From his beautiful letter, 'On the Shortness of Life'.
Peace my friend...Harry

Is the title a reference to Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s Love in the Time of Cholera? Either way, I enjoyed this warm-hearted philosophical poem. x

Yes! One of my favorite books in addition to One Hundred Years of Solitude! He, and Jose Saramago, are two of my all-time favorite authors.
Your time is much appreciated.
