Closed Eyes

Words are caught in my throat to stand
I hold your hand
Washed in the waters of our goodbyes
I close my eyes
It is in that a part grief but in heart
The hope of peace
In the faces of the lives you’ve touched
The reminder of your ways
You live on here in what you taught
In that you shared
Though you go as you always do
Rising to face the next
A part of you as yet resides
Within the grace of our closed eyes.
