Meaning of Life
["What is the meaning of life?", pertains to the significance of living "Why are we here?", "What is life all about?", or "What is the purpose of existence?" There have been a large number of proposed answers to these questions from many different cultural and ideological backgrounds. The search for life's meaning has produced much philosophical, scientific, theological, and metaphysical speculation throughout history.] - Wikipedia
I recall the first time I went to a riding stable.
I had always wanted to ride a horse.
The stable hands picked out a suitable horse for a beginner.
It was lead outside the fence to the wide-open.
They told me to put one foot in the stirrup
Grab onto the saddle horn
To pull myself up and throw my other leg over.
As soon as I mounted the horse, he took off!
That experience taught me the meaning of life.
It was scary and it was exciting
He galloped, he bucked, he trotted, and he jumped.
He took unexpected turns and had a wild look in his eyes.
I didn't know if I had an old nag headed for the glue factory,
A derby winner or a rodeo bronc
But I was supremely certain that I wasn't in control.
He let me know I was just along for the ride
But I was just as certain that this ride would not last forever,
As nothing ever does;
A horse ride, a day, happiness, money, careers.
All too soon family and friends pass away.
All too soon our lives are gone.
Phases of the moon, ocean tides, night and day;
The seasons change one fading into another.
I must admit, I don't really know the meaning of life,
But I know while I was on top of that steed
I laughed and yelled and had a grand time.
I felt truly alive, completely in the moment.
I don't know what my life has to offer,
Whether it will be a nag or a prized pony,
But I am ready to give it a run for the roses
To face each new day and live it to the fullest
With both hands gripped tightly, full of mane
Now, Gitty Up!
