The "God Complex" ... (TED talk :  https://www.ted.com/talks/tim_harford_trial_error_and_the_god_complex#t-15112  ) ... has reached new heights in the post-truth world. Strongly held opinion (backed up by whatever raw power one can muster), even in the face of lots of counter-evidence, is the new 'god'. It's no secret how dictators rise to power, even in so-called civilised democracies.
