Cant see the good for the trees
Brushed aside the paperwork;
and saw
a whole forest up my arsehole
doing nothing
but fuelling stress and panic.
Time
to plant that
elsewhere
and enjoy the clearings.
I resolve to be calmer
nothing much
revolves around me;
nihilism has its benefits.

Author's Note
Recently spent two weeks at work obsessing about completing a 5 step process for many people exactly to the letter - turns out it was a 2 step process and in the grand scheme it doesn't really matter. Sometimes you need to break and crack to fix what really matters.
All writing remains the property of the author. Don't use it for any purpose without their permission.

Exactly. The crack is how the light gets in. I learned decades ago what was important - and while work may be necessary, in the grand scheme of things, it's love and companionship with friends & family that's important.

I think this is my favourite poem of yours in a while. It’s brisk and pithy, presenting an original (and very funny) image on which to hang the poem, and then a neat expression of the theme. Kudos.

I have dartford to thank for the Spartan style: cut the crap and say what you want. I'm a pompous ass with enough wisdom to see the funny side of that!

☝️... I echo J up there. He knows his stuff.
Probably also my favourite that I’ve seen you write for a while. It feels punchy, still with that bone dry sense of humour we’ve all come to know and love from you.
Most of all, I love the frustration that this portrays of the working heroes that are still slugging away at this time of year, myself included. Captured a paperwork futility I am also feeling.
Great job on this one.

There is only Death and Taxes and someone needs to file and record that paperwork!
In retrospect my actions were ripe for farce: all that work for naught, while simply trying to follow the line when no one really cares if it is straight or curved so long as you keep moving.
A recent favourite: well not much from my end to vie for that position, but it is good that the few pieces are being enjoyed and lauded. Seems I am more of a bony jab than a meaty wallop!

Well done for questioning "the way we do things around here" - paradigm-busting has its advantages.

Ah well, there is the crux; it took some intervention by higher paid powers to show me the error of my ways. Though it did confirm I had the authority to actually make some shortcuts and time saving forms.

Seasons Greetings and a Happy New Year!
When I find someone who knows my mind and feelings then there shall be a great apocalypse and grin on my face.

Re. Cant see the good for the trees
Nice work Viddax. There is a sense of authority to the voice, having arrived at clarity on the other end of an ordeal is something I resonate with. I've been taught through my spiritual practice that we become frustrated with tedium when we cease to be fully aligned with the present moment and that anything done with care and attention can be meaningful. I get plenty of time to come on dup when I'm at work though, so it's easier for me to take a high hand lol. Look forward to the quiz skit brother it'll be fun.

I have yet to fully align myself with the path most suited to me. I see it in my mind's eye, but idle hands and a need for bread and materials means I do not have the luxury to not work or do.
I need to find more time to be silent and the wisdom in that; to simply work hard and not have to explain myself - either they will understand or not, it does not really matter.
Looking forward to the quiz, but dreading the questions.
