Ode to John Moreland
What do you see?
Through the mist of your coffee
A passionate singer
A vocal gunslinger
A poet and songwriter
Hold up your lighter
Good on the guitar
The mildness and strength of a cigar
A soft heart
A man apart
A good man
Polished like leather tan
A man who has known the pain
That many treat with disdain
A man who is still suffering
Every second this video is buffering
Do you zone out
With the eyes fit for a stakeout
Can't you hear the voice
Despite it is your choice
Can't you hear the lyrics
Passionate and heroic
Is the melody lost
Does your heart need to defrost
Doesn't he get one roll of the dice
Are your tears just dry ice
Do you just stare, poke fun
Your finer feelings; none!
Do you point and laugh
His weight off the graph
You need to look with better eyes
Engage your heart you may get a surprise
Can't you bet past his shape
Are you an uncivilized ape
No heart, no soul, no respect
This gruff singing angel is just perfect
He speaks to my broken heart
Good and ready to depart
Unless you are two years old and teething
If he doesn't touch your soul you ain't breathing
