All Heart
The way to a man's heart
is not a knife thrust upward
between the fifth and sixth rib
and given a good jiggle about
it's not a sniper's dead shot
headshot armour piercing
it's not a shotgun blast with
both barrels at point-blank
It is not a carefully inserted
power drill on hammer setting
it's not a fire axe thrust powerfully
with force into the chest cavity
it's not a grenade hung round
the neck for self-detonation
it is not a kitchen carving serrated
knife thrust from behind skilled
to stab under the shoulder blade
it's not even the surgeons careless
slip of the scalpel during surgery
These very events will stop the heart
but let's face it - where is the fun in that?
the most skilled way to a man's heart
first, make him fall in love with you
take, take, and take some more with
or without permission, cheat, cheat
and cheat some more with a smile on your face
cheat with other men, women and horses
once he seems out of cash or worthless
make him feel desperate by questioning
the validity of his love, keep him on edge
use sex as a weapon to keep him hooked
if he starts to suspect, dump him and cut
of all contact, turn others against him
create lies assassinating his character
this is truly the way to a man's heart
if you want to destroy him just because
you can.
Killing him is too easy
break his heart and torture
him for years to come
such satisfaction can be had
for deliberate and hateful planners
all it takes to start it off
is to offer love
then you are
good
to
go

This poem mirrors my dark feelings of the day. It is well written, proves a small smile (despite the subject)....the irony and playing tone makes it bittersweet. I'm sure it could be read in a number of ways; hope my way doesn't offend.

I had to edit out my previous comment because on review it was poorly expressed. I just wanted to express that I believe it's good to name the enemy that refuses to name itself.

It is only in private that one can name the names but I agree if you have toxic people around you you should give them only the respect of their name. It is unfortunate they cannot be named in a public forum and they know that because writing and poetry is the most important thing to me and I would not risk my membership here - but when I am ready to leave all bets will be off - if that day ever comes.

David, mo chara....my Gram always delighted, in telling me, the ole cliche' that "the way to a man"s heart is through his stomach!" And while i know. she meant thru food....(My Pop-Pop being especially fond of her culinary abilities...)i"m quite certain this could be an equally as painful route / method, as All those other "gruesome" ways you mentioned Hee! Hee!
However....once again, your signature, twisted sense of humor creates a bit more of light-hearted spin on a much more serious, painfully difficult situation! Deliberately playing games with someone"s feelings / emotional well-being, is cruel.....unacceptable--a l w a y s, and your unique use of sarcasm enhances this point! whether, or not, some readers may be a bit "offended" by your style, this piece leaves deep impact---one NOT easily forgotten!

(Grins and Giggles! 0Big Scottish bears do tend to rattle cages!!!
My jaw may have become a bit unhinged...LOL! But....offended....NOT at all! ;) To me, this piece is intended to leave a lasting impression upon its readers! And--most assuredly--it does just that!

Scottish bears give the best hugs ever, long gentle and warm. They do not crush, they do not scratch and they never bite (without permission)
However even a Scottish bear can be provoked if mistreated or injured - Like the most mellow of bears if they are poked to much they have the ability and the claws to tear humans apart, but only those deserving it.
Scottish bears can also be fierce, fiercely loyal, fiercely protective of friends and underdogs, fiercely preserving the truth,..................

Sometimes we have no choice but to close the door and walk away. You can love someone, but it doesn't mean they have to love you back. Some people take advantage of love. You expressed this really well here. I have closed the door a number of times. Currently it's bolted lol
