Image for the poem Unaware

Unaware

It starts  slowly
Creeps up whilst unaware
Feelings soon amplified
Questions arise, does anyone care?

Faces once bright now dull
Eyes mist over, emptiness glows
Life no longer blissful
Hidden emotions begin to show

Friends fade
Relationships suffer
Tensions frayed
No-one answers

Sleep becomes escape
Shadows haunt dreams
Only dark landscapes
Silent screams

Internally seeking a reality anchor
Suffering becomes the norm
The mind closes the bunker
Desperate to weather the storm

Invisible battle scars
Internally they bleed
Hurt and pain spar
Who will succeed?

Lives lost to darkness
Family mourn the loss
Unaware they felt aimless
Paid an enormous cost

Many return to daylight
Relationships repaired
Face turn from dull to bright
Learned to always be prepared
