300 to 125

So I got this bad infection in my big toe,
it happens with diabetics
their blood is sweet, and
bacteria love it.

Plus the flesh is weak,
and when you walk on your toe,
the weak flesh just crumbles.

That is all well and good
so my purple toe had a couple of options,
go the emergency room and have it amputated,
or stay home and get rid of my high blood shuga.

Well I didn't know what my readings were so it
had been some year or so since I actually poked my
finger and I couldn't find my meter,  so I went to
wall mart and bought one for twenty bucks which came
with twenty test strips and twenty finger pokers.

I poked my finger, and got a reading of 315 mg/dl
or 3.15 grams per liter, and to put that in perspective,
orange juice has about 90 grams per liter of sugar.
Well that explained why I have been slurring my words,
and why my toe infection kept growing,
it was that 315 reading, that should, for normal people
be about 100.

So this is whatr I did. If I went to the hospital,
they would have given me a shot of insulin, and my
sugar would have immediately dropped.  Then they would
decide to amputate me toe, or treat it.  It is a teaching hospital,
and I am quite inclined to believe they would amputate, to
give the med students some experience.

Well I did not have any access to insulin, so I decided to fast.
Plus I went out for a long walk.   Walking burns sugar.
Plus, I have got these children with pimples, and when you
have pimples, well, the doctors freely prescribe you antibiotics.
Now if I were to have gone to the doctor and asked for some antibiotics,
they would have said "no, you need to go the emergency room NOW"
How do I know this?  I have my ways.   Believe me, I have my ways.

Now to help with that fasting, I had a stash of old diabetes meds, One
being the mainstay Metformin, and two, a few once-a-week shots of a pancreas activator,  Bydureon.   I promptly took those.  I went to bed, it was around  1:00 in the morning. When I was awake, it was saturday, and I went out for a nother walk.
Then the family woke up, and began clamouring around the kitchen, doing their family
bonding thing, of making various sundry items for breakfast, then lunch, then dinner.
I skipped them all.   My toe was not getting any more purple, so I led myself to believe
the tide had turned, or at least stopped.  Finally that night, I decided to put a twelve ounce bag of frozen cauliflower+broccoli mix, into the microwave and ate it.
I poked my finger again.   it was 125 mg/dl.

I repeated fasting for Sunday, and monday, and tuesday with light meals in the evening. On Tuesday, I was about to have seconds when my wife put up a big fuss, until I went and got the meter and it was 180mg/dl after my dinner.   So I toke note of my hungries, and realized they were not connected to my sugar level.

On wednesday, I have eaten more heartily, but limited it mostly to things like grated cabbage.  I no longer feel hungry. I hope the food I ate will last a long time, maybe two or so days in my intestines.   Modern food is a killer.  It mostly has been digested in just a few hours.  There is little left in the intestines for later.  As opposed to the high fiber, chopped vegetables diet, where the slow release of nutrients can last much longer.

My bowel movements have gone from a typical twice a day thing, to so far, twice in four days. My toe is no longer purple.  there is a battle scar, a large dark scab on the side, where some skin didn't make it.  The hole at the bottom, seems to finally be growing some skin.

A diabetics healing system is thrown off track under the influence of high blood sugar.
But if I can keep it low, Healing happens rapidly.

tah tah, for now
