Escape from the cage

Seems so long
since we
 showed a real sign of sympathy
and understanding..
sharing no suggestions as to how we
may go about accepting that
we're united universally as one
beneath the one and only sun we share
so shouldn't we care?
Ha.
Nope.
That's not our style,
we'll make anyone crawl
that unnecessary mile
to prove they're worthy of anything
 or useful to us.
I'll admit things are better
 than they've ever been in some ways dare I say, but
 we still have a ways to go
to show and prove
we can exist in this earthly paradise
without ruining it or each other,
a point that's worth proving,
paving paths to peace,
reaching to release each angered soul
feeling empty and estranged,
let us help them to escape
 from this cage
we've all been captured in
over and over again,
catching ourselves there
each century, asking
 "is this where we've always been?"
