Long Love
On a rare occasion
attending a noisy crowded party
I lose sight of you
and my body instantly reacts, viscerally,
gut twisting into a gripped panic …
and then I see you across the room
chatting away -
suddenly you glance in my direction
and I wave back, as if to a friend.
Momentarily you look at me quizzically,
then smile.

Wonderful. Those small moments of panic are just signals that love is alive and well, Josh.

Yes thank you. After a rocky start for the first 40 years I consider myself very fortunate the last 20+

Re: Re. Long Love
Thank you Paul. I'm currently reading an anthology "The 20th century in Poetry" - I turned the page yesterday to '1937' and who is there but Stephen Spender (Thoughts during an air raid) and a few pages later again (Port Bou) - both quite polemic so I shall read more of his work to get a better picture.
(As an aside, a long time ago you mentioned Ivor Gurney (new to me as then) and I tracked the Ivor Gurney Society keeping his work alive. Amazing guy and output for such a troubled life. I have much respect).

I try not to think about it but as I get older the question occasionally forces itself into my orbit. Thank you for your comment.

Tender and yet so profound. I truly love those moments when glances can capture more than words.

Dear J,
This makes me think of the notion of someone needing someone else and the love that sparks between the two knowing they can ignite that for each other. A special bond for sure. Lovely write. H🌷

Thank you H. We'd both just turned 40 when we met, with our considerable distorted histories, but I count myself very fortunate to have had this experience the last 20+ years. I wish everyone the same.

Thank you Jemac. I am indeed fortunate - after a false start and a big mess first. I count my blessings these last years. I wish everyone the same experience.
