We Can't Always Be In Control

Feed me your vulnerability
one word at a time
be assured
you don't have to saddle up
unless it is easier
to tell me
of the exhaustive efforts
it took to manage
every little detail

I see that softness
drape across the posture
of the daily warrior
wielding the worth
fierce stilettos
click on the concrete
taking charge
to assemble
those who do not

Let the curls
caress the shoulders
freeing the need
to run that tight ship
join me in the slow breath
your soft cheek
to the frizz of my chest

And tell me everything
that makes you weak
so I can cradle you
without judgement

I will find honey in the tears
that release you
my tongue always ready
to lap at the truth
of the unexpected spill
of these human moments

My empathy available
to complete the purge
my skin to yours
in the stillness
in these sheets
gripping each sob
calibrating the blues
to clear you

You see an appeal to this
and now that your mind
has sensed the calm
you have opened
to be taken
under the leadership
of my sympathy.
