A Louder Silence - for the “silence verses verses comp”
There are times when silence
Can really equate to violence
When in your heart you know
You should speak up
Stand against injustice
Support the downtrodden
Why inside of your mind
Do you recite silent verses?
That you know to be right
With lips sealed so tight
Write verses of power
Break your silence declaring
Silence can be a good thing
But not when it leads to hurting others
Choose your battles wisely
Using silence and verses
When appropriate
Can really equate to violence
When in your heart you know
You should speak up
Stand against injustice
Support the downtrodden
Why inside of your mind
Do you recite silent verses?
That you know to be right
With lips sealed so tight
Write verses of power
Break your silence declaring
Silence can be a good thing
But not when it leads to hurting others
Choose your battles wisely
Using silence and verses
When appropriate

If you dont speak your truth it dies with you. Whatever the battle. What's left unsaid remains with the dead. And not speaking often sides you with the violence. Great message, David
Fierce hugs!!! :-)

"If you dont speak your truth it dies with you."
... not heard it put so well before ... I'll keep that on my desk as a quotable and a reminder. hank you.

Great poem David; silence can be tantamount to saying to tyrants "it's o.k" - when it's clearly not. {like the new avatar}

This poem got me thinking about a couple of things.
One of the ways my ex used to hurt me was a technique I’ve come to learn is called stonewalling. Completely ignoring you. Making you feel like you don’t exist. “There are times when silence really equates violence” completely took me right back there. Never again will I be silenced by anybody. I’m kinda adamant about that.
However moving on to the rest of the poem, and using this statement as an opener for injustice is quite poignant, and I think it says a lot about the kind of person that you are. Somebody that does fight for injustice.
Choose your battles wisely indeed. Somehow silence is also the best answer. Hence my classic use of the word
“No.”
I enjoyed this one, Bear. Thoughtful. Thanks for sharing.

On the subject of "Never again" we agree 100%.
I have been fighting injustice most of my life, as a career and also in general. Speaking up for the voiceless or the disenfranchised is my history and ultimate legacy.
I am so thrilled that there are a few people on DU see the real me.
The power of "No" and "No surrender, no retreat" resonate its a power that many should try to learn lest they be sheep :-)
Love and respect always - Rick

Awesome work David. Choosing one's battles and the ground upon which one fights them is key in The Art of War. Discipline is knowing where and when to expend one's energy as much as when not to. I gather and focus mine where it counts. Your write has a strong, clear voice, which is engaging and the passion is evident.

Having been fired as a MOD has its benefits and I am experiencing a real feeling of freedom has actually helped a great deal in my newly forming attitude. Your support and encouragement is so important to me. I bow to your wisdom

Haha like watching a woman getting raped and doing nothing. Look at politics, politicians have gotten so bold they don't even care if you know they lied or committed crimes. Tight

Indeed - I would happily shoot the perpetrator in the face without a twinge of guilt. There are times when violence is the best solution
