June 13, 2019 : I Still Miss You

nine years of grieving
have not made me stop talking
to the memory of you that lingers
today I will write a letter instead

thank you, opa
for if it wasn't for you
with your loving support
and scolding me when I needed it
I would have never known
what a father is supposed to do

a bitter aftertaste lingers
I did not just lose my grandfather
but my true father figure
my confidant
my partner in innocent crime
the man I will forever compare every
potential partner to

experience has taught me
that there is no comparing the unconditional
way of loving me you mastered

the truest of loves
will never really leave us
           thank you, opa
