Evolve
I am limbless fish
with eyes on shores that I
see support crabs and lizards.
I let the word fearless live
as I explore, ducking hunger
in the form of bird gizzards.
On beaches that now see only
tourists tour to catch a couple pictures.
I am iron will.
Destiny unfurling as
my tiny limbs spill from fins,
I spend my time ashore burrowing.
Once a couple eggs are
packed in, it begins.
The season of my children
and my children's friends
atop the green earth hurling
towards the unknown.
Longer legs, bigger bones.
I will die in this watery home.
Not a land creature,
not a fish, but something different.
Remember me for what I did,
Your DNA will forever live with my noble imprint.
A most curious intent.
A fish land bent.
A decision you will
forever
live with.
On the rock's surface,
lineage lost.
We know not where to go,
awkward, loud and slow.
We are doomed, yet a few survive.
Stronger, smarter, faster, we adapt
and slowly learn to hide.
The food here is rich,
plus the sunshine is beautiful.
We are thankful for what you did,
but sometimes we want to swim.
The minds eye
strays to depths
hiding just behind our shark like pupils.
We consider your approval,
then decide exploration to be rather crucial.
I am the eraser,
dipping toes in ponds that
cut me deep as rapiers,
turning any fondness of
the trees and rocks to vapor.
I am bitterness, my gills were robbed
and now I'm forced to hold
my breath or bob, due to selfish capers.
The ocean is the home I'll never know,
those lousy fish can take her.
I am lashing out, a rebel.
I am packing up and headed
to meet the devil.
Desert bound, where the ground
is dry as bone, I arrive dishevelled.
Atop rolling hills of sand and
far from you, I'm most level.
You robbed me of my roots,
I'm the misguided tree.
Bug fed, few and far between.
I grow some wings and serve
a queen.
A bug head with a fish past,
collecting rocks to fulfill another's wishes,
subservience like I’ve never had.
I am mutiny, on to bigger better things.
I am rogue scorpion, with an ant's wings
and a fish's desire to
playfully float and sink.
I am rage, I am the last of what you
left to drown without drink.
I am the monster that dodged all the snakes,
the poison mushrooms and the bear paws.
I am both strong and distinct.
Snatched, in the clutches of a birds claws,
I am extinct.
with eyes on shores that I
see support crabs and lizards.
I let the word fearless live
as I explore, ducking hunger
in the form of bird gizzards.
On beaches that now see only
