Velocity Rapture
An apple a day falling onto my plate
My ancestor Anstress could not calculate
Sir Isaac foretells twenty-sixty will come
As Daniel wrote words calculating the sum
The planets aligned and the comets passed by
But the end has not come and no one knows why
It may be an eclipse that blots out the sun
Will the last spoken words be, thy will be done?
Earthquakes and tsunamis have ravaged the land
Perhaps Mother Nature will start the last stand
Her revenge bittersweet soon after she dies
As she burns us alive with acid she cries
Camping out in twenty-eleven of May
Was an error in judgment on Judgment day
Harry promises it's coming five months too late
Perhaps the Great Pumpkin will hold off our fate
I'm so disappointed the world didn't end
Another Rapture was avoided again
One day the future will be left in the past
How much longer must my alonliness last?
Come meteors and comets plow into the world
There are plenty of rockets still to be hurled
The North Pole may move south and kick the South out
Perhaps the Sun will cause an unending drought
Will I have enough life to live long enough
Or die like the troll trying to eat Billy Gruff?
Awaiting Ragnarok to roll down Bifrost
Till hearing Thor's thunder as Midgard is lost
The Mayan calender's counting down the days
I hope there won't be a mistake or delays
As so many foretold and so many fooled
Repeating the myths and ultimately Thuled
Joseph the con-man converted a moron
Buried treasure was never enough to live on
So start a religion and predict Armageddon
Then be loved forever fore the world ain't-a-endin'
Billy's great disappointment of eighty-four
Fooling Millerites from the rich and then poor
Praying to be taken fulfilling their roles
Twice advantageously selling off their souls
Be it desire for wealth, power or sex
What will be the worth of your balances and checks?
If the real One comes he'll take it all away
Your word won't be enough to buy you a stairway
Christians singing hymns believe it will come true
Nostradamus thought he knew the lyrics too
I doubt he foresaw that I would write this song
Did any one of them know they all got it wrong
