The Crayon Dragon

The Crayon Dragon
colour-washed fine lines in the sky
- perfect circles of fluent fire -
so those with an eye to see
might look up … and wonder.

Inspired by such scenes
the Edaphon Dragon,
with millennia of natural training
as Gaia’s geometrician,
carved crop-circles in the Wiltshire countryside
complementing the Crayon Dragon’s art.

Some years back, near Marlborough, I lay in one of them
newly arrived the night before,
its fresh gentle curves and arrow-straight lines
calmly caressing my troubled frame
and filling it with renewed intent.

Staring again at the sky
I tried my best to discern the fire circles
but they remained beyond my ken -
then the Crayon Dragon flew down
and whispered in my ear, “Don’t you see?
The fire circles … are in your pen”.

Author's Note
‘Edaphon’ are the soil-earth equivalent of the sea’s ‘plankton’ - the microbial activity which supports all life.
