(my) vociferation
(my) vociferation
(Twenty-Nine of 30 -- Official DUP NaPo/GloPoWrimo 2019)
Throughout every day of being, living
words I use unaware of the damage
they can do, have done. . .
However,
we carry on
blindly tossing out syllable after
syllable with unseen accuracies
piercing hearts and souls
often, never being made aware.
Is it our pride that causes us to
not notice the carnage our biting
words leave in their wake?
A battlefield of love, laughter, tears
all silenced crumpled bodies
already decomposing has begun.
Is it humility and kindness when slapped
into enlightenment by ears torched
preferring cool wisp, whispers to flamed
words or boiling watered phrases?
Perhaps
I really need to
keep thinking
keep Feeling
before I speak.

But no one can tame the tongue. It is wild and evil. It is full of poison that can kill.

Bravo, Tallen. Very astute observation that we all need to heed. Loved the last stanza especially.

my heart or mind can get a word in edge-wise.

Very relatable - my grandma used to quote that verse about letting one's yes be yes, and no be no; and anything beyond that was of the devil. Am always happy to try and oblige with the yes/no remit but it requires immense clarity - a clarity I seem not to have that often.

My Mom made me memorize the verse (King James Version) when i trick her into saying an expletive. This, after she washed my mouth out with a bar of soap.
I know this is often relatable to us all

Every word has the power to heal or hurt. Always best to be aware of that and choose words that harm as little as possible. There will always be inadvertent unintended damage by those struggling through things we know nothing about. A single word or phrase can pierce, even when not meant to. It's all in interpretation and one-sided knowledge. Nice write :-)

I was discussing this very thing last night with Yelluw_Always, how in various wisdom traditions they essentially agree that much evil flows from the mouth. It is wise to be aware of what we are saying, though how someone receives anything they hear, regardless of it's intention, depends on where they are, open, defensive, etc, of course. I love your fourth stanza in particular. Your descriptors are effective.

Spoken words hold energy
and agree with You about how the recipient of said words can affect the energy depending on their receptors and where they are in their state of mind and spirit
Very appreciative of Your share
thank You, Brother

I've been trying to figure out how to touch on this subject myself. I've always said, I'd take an ass beating over words anyday. Yet I've been just as guilty. Thank you for passing the torch..the ephinany that I can & need to ink it out!💜✌ #thepowerofwords
