Wisps of a Wish
Sitting solely in a field
Surrounded by grass and weeds
You quietly sat down
In the middle of the seeds
You didn't say a word
In silence there you sat
I wish I could have filled the silence
To keep the sky from turning black
I searched your eyes for something
My eyes you could not meet
You just sat there curled up
Brimming in your own defeat
With tears ready to spill over
A small smile crossed your face
"I've got an idea"
I sat, longing for your embrace
Instead you picked up the wisp of a flower
And blew it to the breeze
I plucked one cautiously
Only hoping to appease
"What did you wish for?"
A wish I would not tell
But if I were to tell you
I only wished that you were well
Surrounded by grass and weeds
You quietly sat down
In the middle of the seeds
You didn't say a word
In silence there you sat
I wish I could have filled the silence
To keep the sky from turning black
I searched your eyes for something
My eyes you could not meet
You just sat there curled up
Brimming in your own defeat
With tears ready to spill over
A small smile crossed your face
"I've got an idea"
I sat, longing for your embrace
Instead you picked up the wisp of a flower
And blew it to the breeze
I plucked one cautiously
Only hoping to appease
"What did you wish for?"
A wish I would not tell
But if I were to tell you
I only wished that you were well
Author's Note
This poem didn't quite turn out how I expected it to, however I've had some resurfacing emotions lately and, well, this is how I deal with it ha ha

I love the way they're painted to be in this place of peace but they both seem to have a lot of internal struggle going on. And knowing that the other person sat "in the middle of the seeds" it makes me think they'll overcome the problem they're facing, or at least they have the potential to blossom after they've gone through it. I did expect it to go somewhere else, maybe to a darker place, but I think this was actually exactly what I needed to read right now haha- I've had some emotions returning too that kind of feel like zombies in a graveyard coming after me, and I overcame them earlier today but this poem was like a reminder that we can always return from the darkness and that any hopelessness that lives within us might be mitigated by remembering that there's someone we know who wishes us well :) Thank you for sharing your poem, I truly enjoyed reading it and thinking on it! I hope you're doing okay with the resurfacing emotions. I feel like everyone here can relate to that because so many of us find comfort in writing it and reading it. We're here for you and your beautiful words as well xx

Thank you so so much! You're too kind! I love your interpretation of it. A lot of poems I write, I come to figure out later are about my mom and the state of our relationship, which at this point doesn't really exist. I'm okay with it but sometimes there's this feeling of wishing things had been different growing up. So even if I can't change the past, it's comforting to know that I can write something expressing in my own words how that feels and have people that can relate to it. There's always hope but only if you want there to be. Thank you so much for the read and comment, I appreciate it more than you know x I also hope you're doing well with the emotions that have resurfaced for you as well

Made me feel that the person needed help, but kept it internalized. You know something is off but they won't let you help.

That's true all too often, however, as I've found, you can't help someone that doesn't want to help themselves unfortunately. Thank you for taking the time to read & comment x

There is the tenderness of a deep and complex relationship beneath your lilting rhymes, depths beneath the sunlight and fragrance of flowers. I found this intriguing.

Still be my heart! I think it turned out wonderful. You expressed, very well, the isolation in such a situation & how that one act..a simple one, can make an impact. (I'm assuming or wishing it did in my mind atleast). I've been in those moments many times, myself. Great work!

This found me on the edge of tears. I'm not certain what You were after here
but as it is it's very tender with hints of sensuality.
Beautiful Spill

Makes one want to blow for a wish. A sad piece but one that I hope can bring hope. It's certainly a reflective one.
