5:00 AM STROLL
What a perfect morning!
Crisp air, not too cold.
Happy to be outside.
Free to roam where I please.
After a long winter behind walls.
The ground beneath my feet glows white,
lit by the brilliant, descending full Moon.
Majestic trees loom in the distance.
Barely perceptible in the darkness.
Oddly clumped In just 3 corners of my view.
A sudden burst of light
transforms the night to midday
In the most rapid sunrise I’ve seen
My tranquility is interrupted
By the din of metallic scraping.
The sky, to my left rips open.
A snarling, naked giant towers above.
An exasperated look on his horrific face.
With extreme trepidation I assess my situation.
I am not walking through a meadow
As I assumed.
But rather on the bottom of a large, dry reservoir.
The trees were not trees at all
rather large bottles.
Running now...must escape!
Foolishly hoping to remain undetected.
Oh no! The sides are much too steep
And very slippery.
Abruptly a hard, warm rain cascades down.
Seeming to wet only me.
Like a dark storm cloud hovering
Raining only on a doomed cartoon character.
I’m losing my footing...ARGH!
The water sweeps me toward a gaping hole.
Try as I might, there’s no avoiding the inevitable.
I circle the chasm and drop.
My descent is rapid but seemingly endless.
Midst my fall I grab on to a passing, soft, brown clump.
Perfectly designed to cushion my landing.
Wait one minute…
STUPID, STUPID, STUPID!
I’ve got wings!
Why the hell didn’t I use them?
I could be flying past that gargantuan bully.
Too late now...note to future self
Or incarnation
Please not on my back!
I’m begging,
NOT ON MY BACK!
NOT ON MY BACK!
NOT ON MY BACK!
DAMN!
