Echocardiogram
They will study
the thumping in my chest,
mapping this heart
will they discover:
my first date left with a rival
death plucked my champions
I partied a decade away
I cry for others
Will they see that
my arteries unclog
at the glimpse of
the feminine body
and detect
the furious pumping
that courses through me
when that cherished energy
is near?
Have the unexpected losses
taken a toll?
This heart
has travelled many breaks
only to be resuscitated
in the warm glow
of certain affections
I bet they'll
hear a variety of rhythms
that reflect the swinging state
of my chest's reflections
But my primary concern,
is will this show character
or has deterioration
set in.

This made me laugh. I was diagnosed with cancer six years ago. Of all things, I had a tumor around my heart. The rigors of chemo caused a recognizable physical transformation. A teen neighbor was shocked at my appearance. She blurted out, "what's wrong with you?"
"I've got a cancerous tumor around my heart, " I answered.
"I never heard of such a thing, " she responded. "What caused it? "
The joker I am I answered as I put my hands to my heart, "The Doctors think that when my girlfriend broke up with me, it caused my heart to become so weak it became accessible to disease."
She look puzzled and after thinking for a moment responded. "So, it's sorta like AIDS? I didn't believe that was real at first, so it doesn't surprise me. "
Rather then trying to explain that I was trying to be funny, I just looked at her and said, "yes, it is. So, make sure you ask any boyfriends to get tested." Then I walked away.
This is the absolute truth. I couldn't make this up if I tried.

No secret to this one. I had some time before the appointment and I tried to take the time to collect my thoughts. Obviously, there is always a little worry going in and the heart is just one of those complexities that can be a beautiful device to explore some of my truths. Sometimes fear can lead to some great writes. Your enjoyment of this one rings extra powerful as it hits pretty close to home.

Good for you, it inspired a true beauty. Those ones that come without effort are blessings. I wish my gloom & fear would lead to something so beautiful, instead.. I'm blank. Sigh

this was a lesson of mine as well taken from youth even into adulthood..
and the heart thing lead to the "Broken Heart Syndrome"
