I'll Admit I Got You All Wrong
That concrete exterior
obscured a depth
riddled in sarcasm
and off-the-cuff remarks
and you formed
an opinion
that she ran with demons
but in that kinder light
you saw what she hid
and that idea
that sometimes
we could assume alternate identities
completely annihilated
that morbid view
that a horrid past
rife with delinquency
had marked her
in the iconography
of the devil
All it took was one photograph
and the whitewash of shame
that I had judged
without reason
warping possible fictions
to try and see someone
not quite ready to reveal
that remarkable beauty
Imagine my shock
to see the kindest emerald eyes
and the radiant smile
of a splendid soul shine.
