Black Dog
black dog
no leash
like my shadow
always following
never greets me at the door
never lets me pet his fur
all my feelings go away
when my black dog comes to stay
and when moon chases the sun
I see my black dog on the run
no fence I built could keep him in
because he digs under my skin
everybody thinks I’m doing fine
they never see this dog of mine
perhaps the things I can’t erase
called my black dog in the first place
all the things that shouldn’t be
are tied together like string
and when I cut them off of me
surely my black dog will be set free
no leash
like my shadow
always following
never greets me at the door
never lets me pet his fur
all my feelings go away
when my black dog comes to stay
and when moon chases the sun
I see my black dog on the run
no fence I built could keep him in
because he digs under my skin
everybody thinks I’m doing fine
they never see this dog of mine
perhaps the things I can’t erase
called my black dog in the first place
all the things that shouldn’t be
are tied together like string
and when I cut them off of me
surely my black dog will be set free
