humanities love strands

a foolish lady I am
I reach out and still can't comprehend
what is right before me...love is intangible
I want to wrap my hands around it
hold it gently...like a mama

I know somehow in past days I've mishandled it
like a child eagerly reaching for its first pet
I mauled something so delicately precious

now with tenuous connections made one to another
I sit back and let it happen naturally
a connection can't be forced on another
it either happens or it doesn't

a gift when it does
with a warmth that spreads through my chest
I've learned to be grateful for these bonds
if they last only a moment

they are minutes in the sun
with the ones I love
if only a prison visit
within the matrix of life

it is better these
than eternal exile of the utterly secluded
some will come in close to know you
others will flee

in this world over hope
there is trust to be built in this dimension
bars, wall, concrete, and steel
will break you if you let it

connect to those who have real love
and honor in their heart
the rest is just road noise...
