Soma
I thought I was holding up well
But you always had a way of getting to me
I wanted to be anywhere else in the world
Like an itchy wool sweater given as a loathed present
I had to bear it with the rest
College thesis spoken from pseudo intellectuals
Easing the pain like salt in a wound
Give me another dose when she mentioned my name
I ran hard and fast
(In my mind)
Away from the ritualistic crowd
Searching for childhood innocence in a time long since past
Music was the stumbling block that sent me crashing back
Like belated resurfacing from icy waters
(My lungs were burning)
In that moment, I realized the future had been stolen
Abruptly snatched from under our feet
The concrete floor of reality came up to meet me
I couldn't breathe
And I crumbled

Thank you so much.
I'm embarrassed to say I haven't read any Huxley yet.
This was actually inspired by reflections of a close friend's recent funeral. But I think it can be likened to many situations.
Again, thank you for the kind words and welcome.

to this write. it spoke exactly my internal language and made me feel the numb then the tumbling descent through realization, and finally, the quick rise to the occassion - every twist of the gutting was beautiful. thanks for the read.
pleasure to see this from a new member; welcome to DU. [:

The title intrigued me.
I read and reread.
This is beautiful.
A rabbit hole where every
turn throws a pulsar burst.
Enjoyed. Looking forward.
