Cyrillic ache

my love
abandons tosses and turns
and sleeps with devotion
upon sunrise
leaves a perfectly smooth blanket
to catch the morning light
my love is up for work
kicking his bike into freedom
quick with a cigarette cocked in his certain mouth
my love leaves a breadcrumb path
of nicotine for the birds
low enough to follow
my love leaves too fast

my love
steadied me
when my skates went clumsy
without touching
my love
has earned my head
enough to convince me
my whole brain is a wrinkly pink writhing
worm curling
the letters of every word he told me

I can live in spite of my love
and think back to that sky solid enough
to bump my head on

I can live for my love
no matter which side of the world
it's taken.

I can live with the fact that it happened
and maybe I'll give up
leave it alone

but not until I know his language.
