Late Coming Love
Oh my love, I have lived a long and full life,
Knowing in equal measure both joy and pain.
There have been triumphs, and some disasters too,
But fate has been kind, granting many blessings,
And in the scales of fortune, more good than bad.
Entering now on the twilight of my years,
I spend my time reflecting on life's journey,
And my thoughts turn at length on old memories,
Their rich panoply playing across my mind,
Tender thoughts of old loves, and generous friends.
I have traveled to many far flung places,
Gazed on such wonderful and amazing things,
But now I know the greatest delight of all,
A final gift, most wonderful in its grace.
For you are there to greet me each new morning,
A vision of loveliness that melts my heart,
Lying next to me in my bed, so warm and soft,
Your hair tumbled across the pillow,
Like gentle waves breaking on a sun-kissed shore,
Your lovely face caressed by the morning sun.
This present is so much more than I deserve,
As unexpected as it is amazing,
For your presence now illuminates my world,
In many ways I never could have foretold.
Dreamy floating between sleep and waking,
I tenderly recall our nights of passion,
Our sweet loving, and union of our flesh,
The consummation of our new minted love,
As in ecstasy we flew beyond the stars,
To float on iridescent clouds of eternal bliss.
Fully awake now, I softly touch your lips,
And gently rousing you from your sweet repose,
I gaze into your eyes, and greet you with a kiss,
Which you return in equal measure, and then,
Opening your arms to take me to your breast,
You hold me close in your wondering embrace.
Murmuring words of love and yearning desire,
We grow more eager in mutual passion,
And in the fusing of our mortal bodies,
We become one with in everlasting love
Knowing in equal measure both joy and pain.
There have been triumphs, and some disasters too,
But fate has been kind, granting many blessings,
And in the scales of fortune, more good than bad.
