Climbing Mountains
We are all treading
The same journey alone ,
Each of us
Seeking a different throne
That surreptitiously takes us
Farther from home –
And like a flock of sheep
We roam,
Grazing on
Goods and gadgets to own
That turn brains to mush
And hearts to stone,
Gathering knowledge
About this and that
Proudly thinking
We know where it’s at.
Just another mountain to climb,
Meanwhile ,
The future’s reflecting
In rythmn and rhyme
And humanity’s doing
Time for the crime.
Turned a blind eye
And made the planet a shrine,
Thought it knew best
And failed the test –
Now mother earth
Wants her pound of flesh
And man’s a fool for
Ignoring the signs,
Of poets and seers
And the tests of time.
