Two Butterflies Went Out At Noon
Two Butterflies went out at Noon
With party hats and scarves.
They saved all year and very soon,
A merry Plan they carved.
They caper’d high and were in awe
Sight-seeing at the zoo.
They took in sights they never saw,
Had tea with macaroons.
They made a friend along the sea
With rainbow-colored hair.
Play’d hide & seek down by the quay,
That’s where they lost him there.
So on a whim they took a cruise
To Catalina Isle,
Where flowers bloom & cockatoos,
They might be gone a while.
Image: a photo (circa 1955) from my family’s collection, of a cousin posing among hibiscus in the botanical gardens on Santa Catalina Island.

Jadey,
What a beautiful, little mind you have. Besides writing so deeply sometimes, you can write so sweet, and playfully.
Very nice, my little friend!
Love,
Matthew.

If you explore more of my gallery you discover more facets of who I am.
Let’s see, so far there’s little voice, little mind, little friend. Pretty soon I’ll feel like Tom Thumbs’ wife.

A delightful fantasy, Jade. The butterflies are probably children. winging it on a summer's day. And I love how it ends with the trip to Catalina Island. Hope they took a glass bottom boat.

My dear friend, such an uplifting response to my ode of two butterflies via inspiration from Emily’s. And it was such a delight to trip this light. x

Takes me back to my childhood! And the little books of child’s poetry! Great work and I love the photo.

Aw thank you, Thomas, I really appreciate that. For I, too, am taken back to happy times & sunny days when I write such verse. I’m pleased how it & the photo touched you.

I thank you, Rose, for your dear words, which brought me back here to reread a poem I haven’t seen for a while, to fall in love with it myself.☺️
